The QGIS and InaSAFE training in Universitas Nusa Nipa Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara, was held for 2 days on 11-12 July 2014. The purpose from this activities is to create a local community in their area in order to learn about OpenStreetMap, QGIS and InaSAFE and also to help Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) in their area as data colllector or data analyst. The enthusiasm of the participants is quite high. There were 20 students and 5 lecturers from Information Technology degree joined this training.
In this training they learned about basic understanding of GIS and QGIS such as how to open vector and raster data, how to change data projection, how to analize some cases using QGIS, how to visualize the data using symbology and labeling in QGIS, how to create beautiful map using QGIS Map Composer and also learned more about InaSAFE.
At the end of the training there was some small competition that followed by all the training’s participant. This competition was to measure how far the participants have understand about all the materials. There are 3 winners from this competition that already created beautiful map, they are Floribertus Hericris, Margaretha Rozady, and Yeanne. All the winners from this competition got a cool t-shirt from OpenStreetMap. Congratulations!
