The QGIS and InaSAFE training was held for two days in Hasanuddin University at September 9th-10th, 2014. It was part of the University Roadshow program in some universities all around Indonesia. There were 9 students from Department of Civil Engineering who participated in this training. Most of participants have known and learned about GIS and QGIS material in class so they can follow the training pretty well.
During the first day, participants were given introduction about all process, activities, expectations, and goals of this University Roadshow program. After that, they the trainers introduced them to Contingency Plan and InaSAFE. This material is a new thing for the participants, therefore we gave them an example of disaster case scenario using InaSAFE. We showed Jakarta Flood hazard to make participants get better understanding about the use of InaSAFE. After they understand more about InaSAFE, we focused the training on how to use QGIS, using basic tools, plugins, projection system, vector data process up until symboling and labeling from download OpenStreetMap data through Hot Export.
On the second day, the participants were taught about raster data, vector analysis and map composer (layout). The raster data that we used was Flood Jakarta Hazard and then they learned about vector data analysis and how to use geoprocessing tool in QGIS to find IDP camp in some areas. The last material was map layouting in QGIS using map composer.
At the end of the training there was some small competition to make a disaster map that followed by all the training’s participant. This competition was to measure how far the participants have understand about all the materials. There are 2 winners from this competition that already created beautiful map, they are Alwan and Hushardi Husain. Alwan create map from calculate the flood impact buildings and roads using InaSAFE. All the winners from this competition got a cool t-shirt from OpenStreetMap. Congratulations!
